17lb 14 ounce ray proves the winning fish for Kris Vanstone.

A good variety of specimen fish topped by a cracking undulate ray were brought to the scales during the Bideford Open Fishing Festival at the weekend.

A trip to Dorset for Kris Vanstone paid off with a fine undulate of 17lb 14 ounces for 119.166% to give him first place in the festival.

A total of six specimen fish, including bass and small-eyed ray were weighed in, but a close field saw Taz Wotton take second with a good huss of 10lb 14 ¼ oz for 108.9%.

Steve Found was third with a thick-lipped mullet of 4lb 2 ½ oz for 103.9%.

In all, 34 anglers fished the 48 hour competition and the new August bank holiday timing of the event appeared to prove popular with entrants.
