Players leave Western League club in search of first team football
Shaun Copp and Luke Evans have signed for Appledore.
Both players have started the season with Ilfracombe Town but have decided to move from the Toolstation Western League Premier side to Appledore – who play in the South West Peninsula League - in search of regular first team football.
Copp was signed by Barry Yeo two and a half seasons ago and has scored seven goals for the Bluebirds.
He has struggled to nail down a regular starting spot since returning from a lengthy spell out with a broken leg and dislocated ankle suffered in a derby game against Barnstaple.
Evans joined Combe this summer but after missing two of the first four games he has struggled to break into the team and has decided to move to Keith Shapland’s Appledore to get some match time and sharpness back.
“Neither player has left on bad terms and are welcome back at Combe any time,” said manager Ross Middleton.
“Coppys off to uni in a couple of weeks so will struggle to train. He’s been desperate to play more regularly with us but unfortunately I can’t guarantee him that at the minute, so I fully understand him wanting to leave. He’s a great lad so he’ll be missed but I wish him all the best.
“Luke had a chat with me in the week; we both agreed he needs to get some consistent game time to get his confidence and sharpness up to scratch. Luckily I get on well with Shappy so it will be good for him to play in a quality team like Appledore for a few weeks and we’ll take it from there.”
