Ilfracombe Town 1-0 Hengrove Athletic
After two cup victories in a week Ilfracombe got off the mark in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division with a 1-0 victory over Hengrove Athletic.
Combe always looked the more likely in a scrappy game and showed the one moment of genuine quality when Liam Craze scored his first goal for the club since joining from North Molton with a 25 yard free kick.
Hengrove looked content to leave with a draw right from kick off and rarely ventured into the Combe half with any danger.
Craze’s strike came in the second half and the Bluebirds could have extended their lead soon after with a couple of good chances falling to Frank Paxton.
“We got the job done” said Ilfracombe manager Ross Middleton. “It wasn’t pretty, they were here for a point and we had to work very hard to get all three.
“Crazer’s free kick was the bit of class we needed, we know he’s got that quality from set plays but I’m pleased with the clean sheet more than anything; the defence and Kurtis deserved it, they were brilliant today.”
Ilfracombe played Street at home on Tuesday night, after the North Devon Gazette had gone to print, and travel to Plymouth Parkway for the next round of the FA Cup at the weekend.
