Middleton unimpressed by lack of Saturday home games in early weeks of the season
Ilfracombe Town manager Ross Middleton has been left distinctly unimpressed by his team’s early season fixture list.
The Bluebirds were beaten away at St Blazey in the FA Vase at the weekend, and lost at Plymouth Parkway in the FA Cup a week earlier in a run of five consecutive away games.
Ilfracombe face trips to Cadbury Heath in the league, Torquay United in the St Lukes Bowl and Bridport in the league over the next couple of weeks.
And, coupled with the fact that many of Combe’s home games this season have been played midweek, they will only have played two Saturday home games by October 28.
“By mid-October we will have had only TWO Saturday home fixtures since the start of the season,” said manager Ross Middleton.
“That’s ridiculous; it’s tough for any club but especially a relatively young and inexperienced team like ours.”
But despite his grievances, Middleton was determined to take positives from his side’s difficult run of fixtures.
“The travelling takes its toll on your legs but it’ll stand us in good stead for later in the season, I’m sure.”
