BARNSTAPLE boxer Joe Freeman saw an unusually early start to the season with a close battle at the Princess Theatre in Aldershot.
The show hosted by the Farnham Warriors ABC saw young Joe pitted against Mylo Singh from the local Woking club. Both had a record of four wins from six and neither was prepared to give anything away.
Singh’s longer reach scored early points but Freeman’s fast hands soon restored parity. The crowd pleasing bout was boxed at a relentless pace, a real too and fro affair with both boxers scoring well and at times closing in rapid exchanges.
There were no complaints from the Barnstaple corner when the Woking fighter was awarded a majority points after a tight well boxed contest. A return bout has been accepted by the sporting Woking club, possibly in North Devon in November.
Barnstaple ABC is hosting a sponsors evening at the gym on Friday, October 12 for past or potential club sponsors. There will be a presentation, competitive sparring displays and refreshments at the invitation-only event.
