With the close season coming to an end, the Open Practice session on Saturday was well attended despite some typical Blackdown Hills weather! It promises to be an exciting season with all defending champions competing in their respective classes as racing begins in earnest on Sunday, February 26.

A strong cadet field will again provide some interesting racing as drivers as young as eight take their first steps up the motorsport ladder all the way through to the more mature Rotax 177 drivers who, in most cases, have several years of racing experience to fall back on.

Probably one of the most exciting classes to follow will be the Senior Rotax Max Class which currently has both the current champion, Gemma Batstone, and vice champion, Ellis Bee, contesting it along with two former champions and several drivers moving up from the junior categories.

Last year’s class runner up and team driver for Ginger Racing, Ellis Bee said, “It looks like it’s going to be a vintage year for seniors, especially with the likes of Ollie Beesley and Tyler Weedon moving up to seniors. They are good drivers.”

The club welcomes spectators, with free access on the practice Saturday and a small charge for the race meeting. A full racing calendar as well as all the latest news can be found on the club’s new website at www.dunkeswellkartclub.co.uk. If you are interested in finding out more about karting, please feel free to contact the club secretary via the web site for more details.
