Devon Tarka Run Challenge returns to North Devon on Sunday September 1
Plans are afoot to bring an old favourite back to North Devon – the good old fashioned fun run.
The Devon Tarka Run Challenge is aimed at those who want to enjoy a run through some amazing local scenery, while organisers are planning a host of surprises to put the ‘fun’ back into ‘fun run’.
The run from Bideford to Barnstaple takes place on Sunday as a fundraising event for North Devon Hospice, and has been organised in the past by local fundraiser, Simon Paddon, who says he is delighted to be bringing it back this year.
“There are many running events where the emphasis is on getting a good time, and they can be rather serious. But the Devon Tarka Run Challenge is all about putting the ‘fun’ back into ‘fun run’.
“We’re thrilled to bring this event back for a trip down memory lane.”
Simon has also organised the Devon Coast-to-Coast Cycle Challenge for the last 10 years and raised more than £200,000 for his local hospice in the process.
“Like the Coast-to-Coast cycle, this will not be a race,” he said. “Everyone who has done our cycle will tell you how much fun it is, and that the main goal is just getting to the end and enjoying yourself.
Emma Lowe, from North Devon Hospice’s fundraising team, said: “This event has already created a lot of buzz, and it seems local people are looking forward to a proper fun run in September.
“It’s sure to be a great event, and every pound raised will hep North Devon Hospice care for local people affected by cancer and other life-limiting illnesses.”
Entry is just £15 with a commitment to raise £20 for the hospice. Online registration is open until Monday, or you can sign up on the day. Find out more and register at www.tarka-run.co.uk.
