NEW Barnstaple manager Tom Bulley was still waiting to take charge of his first match as 2012 rolled over into 2013 following three successive postponements due to the weather, including the Boxing Day derby with Ilfracombe and Saturday’s scheduled game at home to Larkhall Athletic.
But he has not been idle, continuing his search for new players.
Town start the New Year with another Bulley among their ranks. Tom has called on his brother Dan, who is over from America, to come and join him for a spell.
Dan played for Plymouth Argyle and Yeovil as a youngster and for Tiverton two or three years ago, said Tom. He was looking to give him three or four games.
In his search for new players the new manager has vowed to give talented locals a chance and he has already signed up Connor Nash, the prolific young top scorer from North Devon League Club Barnstaple FC.
“He has been playing at a lower level, but he has knocked in 27 goals in 11 games. We are lacking a goal scorer and I am willing to give him a chance,” said Bulley. “I am also working on a few others.”
Ilfracombe’s scheduled game at Bristol Manor Farm on Saturday also fell victim to the weather.
They were due to play at home to Bridport as the Gazette went to press on New Year’s Day, while Barnstaple had a trip to Street.
On Saturday Ilfracombe are at home to Bishop Sutton while Barnstaple travel to Melksham town.
New derby date
The local rivals’ postponed Boxing Day game has now been rescheduled to take place on Tuesday, January 15, with a 7.45pm kick-off.
