BOCA Seniors and Braunton decided to share this year’s Albert Beer Memorial Shield after Friday evening’s clash at Appledore finished 2-2.

North Devon Gazette Football League premier division champions Boca went in front in the first half when Ben Whitecross picked out his brother Elliot, who calmly slotted into the corner of the net.

Cup winners Braunton were back on terms just after the hour mark, when Joe Seldon latched on to a wonderful piece of chest control from Sam Box to fire in from close range.

And just three minutes later, Braunton were ahead when a long ball from ‘keeper Jamie Matthews found Russell Harrison, whose well-hit strike flew in.

Braunton looked on course to claim the shield until the last minute of the game, when a Boca free-kick found its way through to prolific frontman Ciaron Lishman to bang in the equaliser.

The decision of how to determine a winner was left to the managers, who agreed to share the shield rather than head into extra time or penalties.

The managers were then presented with the shield by Albert Beer’s daughter, Kathryn.
