12-year-old Rose Ball invited to Loughborough for development match
There must be something in the water in Northam.
12-year-old Rose Ball, who lives just down the road from the Overton twins Jamie and Craig, has been selected to play in an England and Wales development match at Loughborough University.
The young fast bowler, who plays for Bideford CC’s boys’ teams and North Devon Tarka girls’ team, has represented the county under-13 girls’ team on a number of occasions and will now have the chance to measure her game against 19 of her peers at Loughborough.
Rose – who often surprises boys with the pace and accuracy of her bowling – was talent identified for the England Development Cricket programme by her county and Tarka ladies manager Jan Witheridge, having really grown into her cricket this year.
She was also spotted by the England selectors at this year’s Inter-County U13 Girls’ Malvern festival, when she took five wickets on the first day.
Even at 12 years old, Rose has been playing at Westward Ho! for several years, and club member Andy Davies said he was ‘delighted’ by her call-up.
