Weymouth 3-2 Bideford
Bideford will be wondering how they came away from Weymouth empty handed on Tuesday night after dominating a game they would go on to lose 3-2.
Both sets of players had to battle awful conditions, and Bideford ‘keeper Steve Oliver nearly fell foul of the wind early on as a goal kick flew backwards and could easily have ended up in his own net.
The Robins then fell behind in the 20th minute, as the dangerous George Rigg fired in from 20 yards.
But their lead lasted for less than a minute, when a dangerous ball in was headed against the crossbar, only for Sean Downing to smash in the rebound and send Bideford level.
Both sides battled on for the rest of the first period, after which the wind did begin to drop slightly and the game opened up.
Rigg was again on hand to put Weymouth back in front in the 53rd minute with a fine strike after a cross had held up in the breeze and found its way to the edge of the box.
And things soon got worse for the visitors as they were once again caught on the break, with Steve Yetton slotting in to make it 3-1 with half an hour to play.
The Robins were then offered a way back into the game, as Weymouth’s Jake Green was sent off for a horror lunge which sparked bad blood between the two teams with a few minutes left on the clock.
Ben Gerring turned the ball home from the resulting free-kick to set up an exciting finish, but when Rob Farkins was sent off during his side’s goal celebrations their chances dissipated.
There was some good news for the Robins, however, as Torquay United striker Danny Sullivan joined the club on loan.
Bideford go to Cambridge City on Saturday, before a trip to St Albans City on Monday night.
