Bideford Reds veterans head to Italy to compete on international stage
A group of Bideford Reds veteran rowers made the trip to Italy last week to compete against over 40 countries in the World Master’s Regatta.
David Byrnes brought a highly-coveted gold medal back from Varese, just outside Milan, in the master’s ‘D’ single sculls. The 50-year-old beat off competition from seven other rowers from around the globe to claim the win, before teaming up with a Bristol rower to finish second in the double sculls.
Byrnes was also involved as the coxed four came fourth, alongside Alastair Peake, Dave Powe and Dave Godfrey.
