Six wins for the Reds but Blues handed junior 16 quad win
Bideford’s Reds and Blues faced off again at the Appledore and Instow regatta at the weekend, with the reds picking up six victories and the blues picking up a couple of their own.
The event was the sixth of the West of England Championship Regatta, with the last three regattas scheduled to be held at Torquay this weekend, closely followed by Dartmouth and Bideford during the following week.
The closest dual between the two clubs came in the girls’ junior 16 quad, with the Reds narrowly crossing the line first – only to be disqualified after the race for clashing with their rivals in the closing stages, leaving just one point between the two crews with three races remaining.
The blues also tasted success in the girls’ junior 18 double, where Annie Cook and Jessica Myers took a good win from the B crew.
For the Reds, the girls’ junior 14 quad of Kayla Johnson, Georgia O’Connor, Olivia Pearce and Freya Vincent again edged out the pre-season favourites from Paignton to establish a 3-point lead over their rivals, while the boys’ junior 14 quad on Isaac Crowther, Alex Dulalibi-Wilson, Jude Brittle and Jamie Norton closed the gap to just 2 points on current leaders Dart Totnes.
Other victories for the Reds came in the junior 16 quad via Dan Crowther, Nick Dulalibi-Wilson, Eden Brittle and Alex Rowland, with Wilson and Crowther also picking up a win in the corresponding J16 double sculls race.
The vets crew also picked up a win, as did the club’s senior B four of Adam Curtis, James Williams, Jon Lamont and Richard Prust.
The clubs head to Torquay for the next regatta on Saturday.
