Five wins for Reds and three for Blues on successful weekend
Bideford Blues and Reds faced off at last weekend’s West of England Championship Regatta in Paignton, with both clubs enjoying great success.
The Reds took five victories in South Devon, while the blues secured three wins in somewhat choppy conditions.
The junior section led the way for the Reds, as the Junior 16 quad of Dan Crowther, Nick Dualibi-Wilson, Matt Harris and Eden Brittle won their race, and Crowther and Dualibi-Wilson also linked up to record another win in the Junior 16 double sculls race.
Also securing impressive wins were the two Junior 14 girls of Georgia O’Connor and Kayla Johnson. They won their double sculls race and then joined Olivia Pearce and Freya Vincent plus cox Keely Mills to win their championship quad fours and extend their lead in the championship ahead of their close rivals Paignton.
The mixed novice four combination of Jon Lamont, Adam Curtis, Libby Willis and Jess Cox won the fun event ahead of their club rivals to complete their success.
The Blues beat their rivals in the Women’s Junior 16 quad for the first time this season, with Shelby May, Charlotte Berry, Kirsy Snow and Abie Lawson claiming the victory.
Keeping the club in winning ways were the mixed Senior B four of Hannah Myers, Alice Jackson, Milo George and Owen Winter who dominated their race winning from a strong Dartmouth four.
As conditions got ever trickier, the mixed Junior 18 quad secured the club’s last victory of the day with Zoe Robertson, Charlie White, Declan Monaghan and Kirsty Snow coming home ahead of Paignton.
