Feniton Ladies 2-3 Bideford Ladies
Bideford Ladies staered the New Year with a well-earned 3-2 win at Fenition. The conditions were extremely tough with the wind blowing down the full length of the pitch, but Bideford were able to get some revenge over their opponents, who beat them at home.
The team welcomed Annabel Halstead who has now reached sixteen and is eligible to play. Annabel joined Biddy from the Devon academy side, and was included on Mark Lewis’ bench.
Biddy were against the conditions for the first half, and despite some good football found it difficult to test the Feniton goalkeeper.
Bideford were really struggling to get the ball out of defence but Lou Pontin was keeping her defence well marshalled with the help of the pace that Caz Parsons continually showed.
Feniton looked the more likely to open the scoring, but it was Bideford who did so when man of the match Leanne Cording’s shot was only parried to Kelly Darnley, who slotted in.
The game continued in the same manner with Feniton hitting a long balls, which eventually paid dividends when a header came back off the post and a Feniton forward had the simple task of turning the ball in.
Beth Ellis then had a goal disallowed for Bideford, who went in level at half time.
With the wind in their favour, Biddy began to dominate. The Feniton defence dropped further back which encouraged the impressive Cording to unleash an unstoppable shot, which the keeper could only parry into her net.
Bideford continued to press and time and time again they were asking questions of the home defence.
Feniton did manage to get the ball forwards though, and when the Bideford defence switched off the game was all square again with just minutes to play.
But again Biddy strolled forward, and won a free-kick some 30 yards out.
Up stepped Cross who hit a superb shot into the top left corner, with one of the last kicks of the game to earn the visitors a dramatic win.
