Bideford ABC has two boxers in the national quarter finals of the Junior ABA championships.

Ricky Dymond dominated Tyler Bruierly of Luton Shamrock ABC in his pre-quarter final in Aylesbury.

He started behind a fast jab and, although Bruierly tried to rough him up, he caught his opponent through the middle with straight punches. In the second Dymond pinned Bruierly on the ropes, landing fast combinations to the body and head.

Dymond continued his dominance in the last, with fantastic work rate and hand speed to take a unanimous points victory.

Joining him is Ryan Gumbley, who had a bye into the quarter-finals, but faced H Sanson of Hamilton Greens ABC in a club bout in Taunton. Gumbley had to work hard for his win.

The first round was tight, with little to pick between them. Gumbley took the fight to Sanson in the second to show superior strength, working behind his double jab and unloading with combinations.

The Bideford man showed the better fitness and work rate in the last, forcing his opponent back to the ropes and landing a strong left cross and the referee stepped in and give Sanson a standing count. Gumbley won a points victory.

On the same show, Bideford’s Billy Parsons stopped his third opponent in a row.

After stopping his previous two opponents in the first two rounds, Parsons flew out his corner from the opening bell against Joe Davies of home club Priorswood ABC, landing a big combination in the first 20 that forced the referee to step in and give Davies a standing count. Davies tried box and move, but soon had to take a second count from the referee as Parsons continued his onslaught. Davies clung on through the first round, but there was no stopping Parsons, who stopped his man early in the second.

Despite forcing his opponent to take a standing count Kye Cook was eventually beaten on points by Benjamin Powell of Hamilton Greens.

Bideford ABC is staging its next show at Bideford Pannier Market on Saturday. It is expected to feature boxers from Bideford, Barnstaple, Combe Martin and Torrington.
