Pennington takes over as president of the West of England Amateur Rowing Association

Colin Pennington of the Bideford Amateur Athletic Club (the Blues), has been named as the new president of the West of England Amateur Rowing Association (WEARA).

Mr Pennington is the first man from the Blues to lead WEARA since John Daniels in 2001, and takes over from Exeter’s Nigel Wilmington.

The 58-year-old has been a member of the Blues for more then 47 years and still intends to compete regularly with crew-mates Nigel Cann, Steve Clements and his brother Neil.

A prolific winner since his days as a coxswain, including a South Coast Championship medal in 1992, his most recent success came last year when he was in the WEARA championship veterans crew.

One of the highlights of his presidency will be the President’s Dinner and Prize-giving at the Durrant House Hotel on Saturday, October 11.
