Boxers Tommy and Jack sparring at Pollyfield entre ahead of big fights

BIDEFORD ABC’s boxing brothers Tommy and Jack Langford have had a busy weekend of sparring at Bideford ABC ahead of a busy summer schedule.

Younger brother Jack is getting ready for a weekend trial with team GB in Sheffield next weekend, after all but one of his fights in a fantastic season with Bideford. Jack was only bested by world bronze medalist Anthony Fowler.

Tommy was full of praise for his brother, saying: “I couldn’t wish for better sparring; Jack’s hand speed is as good as anyone I have faced.

“The sparring is really beneficial to both of us and he definitely has the ability to progress further.”

Tommy reached the same heights with his local club, which has set him up well for his blossoming professional career, winning his first nine fights.

He is just starting an eight week training camp for his next fight against Nicky Jenman from Brighton on August 1.

The bill is topped by Frankie Gavin for the European title at the Civic hall, Wolverhampton.

There will be the usual big crowd travelling up from Devon to support Tommy. For tickets at £40, call Richard Grigg on 07949 770616.

As well as hosting some of the top sparring in the country behind closed doors, the forever advancing club has been recognized by the council.

Club development officer Jeff Facey was honoured for helping the community with the hard work he has put in to secure the club’s premises at Pollyfield.

The club is open to the public and well used five nights a week.

Young prospect Ricky Dymond won a youth award, acting as a role model to the community. In a season shortened by injuries he still reached national heights ranked number three in Britain in his championships.
