Smoothound dominated both days of the Bideford Angling Festival at the weekend.
Taz Wotton took first place and the Sunday prize with a smoothound of 13lb 2 ¼ oz, narrowly squeezing Nathan Clements into second with his hound of 13lb 1 ½.
Nathan also won the Saturday weigh in, as well as taking third place with another hound of 12lb 4 ¾.
The blind pairs competition, new for this year, was won by Anthony Smith and Julien Stainer.
It was a difficult weekend for many, with few fish being brought to the scales – other notable specimens included a good smoothound for Julien Stainer and a 1lb 13 1/2oz sole for Dan Redmore.
The next North Devon League sea angling heat is on September 23-24.
On the game scene, Wistlandpound near Kentisbury is seeing anglers averaged just under two fish per rod, with the best fishing in the deeper water by the dam and from the jetty, generally with small nymph patterns.
South West Lakes reports the trout, particularly rainbows, have been lethargic and not keen to feed, preferring to retire to the cooler, deeper waters of the fisheries. Water levels continue to drop, exposing fresh areas of bank.
