Bideford Amateur Boxing Club put in a strong performance at their first home show of the season on Friday.

Seven Bideford fighters were on the card at the Durrant House Hotel, with six coming out victorious.

Topping the bill was Billy Stanbury, who was a unanimous winner over Barum’s Danny Smith.

Stanbury’s left hand kept his side of the scorecard ticking over, and he added in the combinations and some lovely body shots along the way.

The Bideford boxer stayed on top over the three rounds, showing much-improved fitness since his last outing in Bideford back in 2016.

There were also wins for Bideford seniors Igor Silwinski, Tom Corey and Gabriel Silva.

Silwinski flew out of the blocks early on and forced his opponent Conor Macintosh into an early standing eight count from the referee.

The Port Talbot boxer made his way back into the fight and evened things up in the second round, but Silwinski battled back in the third, knocking Macintosh down and forcing another eight count before being announced unanimous winner.

Corey put in a blistering final round to pick up a technical knockout win over Exmouth’s Isaac Swan.

The Bideford boxer forced the referee to give multiple eight counts to his opponent before Swan’s corner threw in the towel.

Corey had controlled the bout, using his jab well and landing some hard-hitting straight shots.

Silva won by a majority over Port Talbot’s Jordan Johns in an entertaining heavyweight contest.

Silva used his jab well throughout, keeping Johns at bay in the early stages, but the Port Talbt boxer came back with some big right hands to even the contest up.

The Bideford boxer recovered well though, and worked hard in the final round to ensure his victory.

Earlier in the evening, Bideford’s Jacob Stevenson and Lewis Cornish picked up unanimous victories.

Stevenson used his range and the ring well against Devonport’s Gabriel Nieckarz, while Cornish put in a very grown-up display in his bout with David Goodwin.

Haydon Harris came out of his bout with Tiverton’s Joe Penfold on the wrong end of a split decision at the beginning of the evening.

Other bouts saw Torrington’s Nathan Board beaten by Jack Evans of Intense; Barum’s Nick Forrest was defeated by Tiverton’s Zack Jones; and Ilfracombe’s Alex Bulpett was beaten by Exeter’s Conner Cudmore. Tiverton’s Alex Jones lost to Port Talbot’s Stuart Phillips.
