Barum won three in a row before Christmas on their way to fourth place in the table – and have already beaten Old Reds 14-6 at Pottington.

Squire has come a cropper once or twice this season when sticking his neck out, but that doesn’t seem to have moderated his enthusiasm for predictions.

“I hope we can carry on from where we left off before Christmas,”

said Squire.

“Old Red are in the bottom half of the table and from where we are at the moment it is a fixture we should win.

“Now we have got into a decent position in the table it is important we stay there.”

Barum came through the Boxing Day win over Bideford untroubled by injury and are close to having a full-strength squad to pick from.

Josh Squire – son of Kevin – is close to reappearjng somewhere in the back line having almost recovered from the cracked ribs which have kept him on the sidelines for the last six weeks.

Bideford have the chance to improve their Western Counties promotion prospects as leaders North Petherton hit town.

Weekend

It is a big weekend in the division as all the top four are playing each other. While Bideford (fourth) are in action against Pethy, second-placed St Austell entertain Okehampton (third).

Torrington’s fight to avoid relegation from the Cornwall and Devon Division resumes with a home game against Newquay Hornets.

South Molton are at home to Plymstock Albion Oaks in Devon One.

Ilfracombe have no game in Devon Two.
