Roman Glass St George 4-6 Barnstaple Town
BARNSTAPLE Town came out on top in a topsy-turvy encounter at Roman Glass St George on Saturday.
Town eventually came away 6-4 winners in a thrilling game which produced more goalmouth action than some teams will see all season.
Roman Glass could easily have gone in front in the first minute, but having missed that opportunity it was the visitors who took control.
Dave Pearse put Barnstaple in front in the early stages, before skipper Aaron Harper-Penman popped up to make it 2-0.
The away side were cruising, but the game turned on its head at the end of the first half as Roman got one back before levelling from a disputed penalty.
The home side then took the lead after the break, but Town were soon level again and edged 4-3 ahead when Shaun Copp found the net.
But the drama was far from over, with the 30 supporters who turned out to watch the match well and truly getting their money’s worth.
Roman equalised again to set up a tense finish, before goals from Copp and Francis sewed up a memorable win for Barnstaple.
In truth, it was a win which Barnstaple well and truly deserved, and the nature of the win might give them the momentum they need going into the final few games of the season.
Barnstaple are currently seventh in the Toolstation Western league first division, still with up to three games in hand on the sides above them.
They travelled to Almonsbury UWE on Tuesday night, after the Gazette had gone to print, before entertaining Warminster Town at Mill Road on Saturday.
