Devizes Town 0-3 Barnstaple Town
BARNSTAPLE Town left their off the field problems behind them by recording a convincing 3-0 win at Devizes Town on their return to Western League action on Saturday.
In just their third match of 2014, Town picked up a vital three points thanks to two goals from top-scorer Billy Tucker and one from Jack Jenkins.
After a slow start for Barry Yeo’s men, Barnstaple took the lead in the first half after a Tucker strike deflected in off Jenkins.
Shortly before half time, Town took advantage of their good play and doubled their lead when Tucker found the net with a dipping strike.
Barnstaple were able to control the game in the second half and Tucker was the man on the spot again to outwit the Devizes ‘keeper in a one-on-one to put the icing on the cake.
Barnstaple are now 10th in the first division following a slew of postponements since the turn of the year, but with up to eight games in hand on the teams above them, a promotion push is still well and truly on the cards.
Shepton Mallet visit Mill Road on Tuesday evening, with Portishead Town making the trip to North Devon on Saturday.
