However first blood went to Sidmouth with a penalty kicked from relative close rang.

Sidmouth had a good opportunity to go 6 - 0 up with another penalty but the wind played up havoc with the kicking and it went wide.

Sidmouth`s indiscretions led to Barnstaple kicking there way in to the corner and from a line-out the forwards had a catch and drive which was executed perfectly as Matt Gohl who went over for the first try.

Sidmouth were using the pick and drive to gain good ground, but when the ball was moved along the line they got no change out of the home defence.

When Sidmouth tried to clear their lines with a kick it was gathered by home wing Ben Ward who started a move which led to Pete Keighley scoring a try.

Reece Stacey, Iwan Willams and Gohl were all involved in the build up.

Barnstaple were very unlucky not to score again with Williams and scrum half Calum Sumners were stopped by some heroic Sidmouth defence.

Sidmouth went on the defensive in the second half, using the pick-and-drive game, and when Barum had an opportunity to score poor handling errors thwarted them.

Good performances were put in by Ryan Legg at prop, Callum Dovell at hooker and Williams on the wing with Gohl taking the honours for Man of the Match.
