Rowers pick up good results on long course

PILOT gig clubs from Appledore and Torridge more than held their own in a field of 13 clubs at Salcombe Regatta on Sunday.

A long course with three buoy turns made for some heated exchanges and clashes of oars, all part of the excitement of competitive gig rowing.

The Appledore Ladies A crew, assisted by some skilful manoeuvres from their very experienced cox Len White, recorded the best result of the day with a magnificent second place – a fitting reflection of all the hard work they have put in over the winter.

Their B crew also put in an excellent performance, coming third in the ladies’ race.

Torridge’s men’s supervets also came second in their category, with third place finished for their men’s B and ladies vets crews also highlights during the regatta.

The North Devon rivals will meet again next weekend at the first of the local regattas in Appledore on Sunday, where the battle will commence on the waters of the Torridge for North Coast supremacy.
