Bideford TSC shooter claims win after third shoot-off
Adie Pile has been crowned with the Thomson Trophy after a nail-biting shoot on Saturday which saw three shoot-off cards being needed to decide the winner.
A number of Bideford shooters took part in the event, which marks the end of the winter season.
In round one, Yvonne Hoile and Lorne Hamilton both scored creditable 190 ex 200 but were knocked out by a single point.
In round two, Mog Thomson and Michael Coombs were eliminated, before John Hutchings and Alex Raymont dropped out in round three.
In the first card of the final, there were four shooters left: Ann Travis, Pete Thomson, Adie Pile and Martin Morgan.
In the first shoot, they all scored 98, so had to shoot a further card.
Remarkably, once again they all scored 98 so a further card was required and this time Adie Pile raised his game to shoot 99, two ahead of Ann with both Martin and Pete one further shot behind.
In last year’s competition, Adie had come second to Ann.
Later on, the bench rest section competed for the New Road Garage Shield.
Keith Kersey retained his title from last year, beating Laraine Sable into second place by two points.
