Just Trio in Barnstaple High Street has constructed a 4ft, completely edible gingerbread house as this year’s Christmas window display.

Just Trio in Barnstaple has unveiled its hotly anticipated Christmas window display - in the form of a lifesize, edible gingerbread house.

The display was put together yesterday (Tuesday) evening and unveiled this morning.

Owner Julia Barker said work began constructing the 4ft house at around 3pm and it was completed six-and-a-half hours later.

The gingerbread was baked by Country Cottage Bakery in Bideford.

It also features a gingerbread man family outside, lit-up candycanes and decorations made from strings of chocolates.

The main window is the star of the show but the shop on the corner of the High Street has several other displays.

This includes a magical winter scene of a polar bear flying over some houses, and a giant wreath.

Julia said: “Each year there is a lot of pressure about what display we will do next; there’s always a lot of excitement.

“We want to say a huge thankyou to Country Cottage Bakery because without them, this house would not be here.”
