Actor Ross returns to Queen's
FOLLOWING its sell-out success at last year's Edinburgh Fringe Festival, One Man Lord of the Rings, written and performed by Canadian actor Charles Ross, arrives at the Queen's Theatre, Barnstaple on Wednesday, February 24.
Ross first made an impact in the UK when his debut show, One Man Star Wars Trilogy, became a surprise sell-out hit at the 2006 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The show's success led to three British tours (including a performance in Barnstaple); two West End runs; and performances at Glastonbury festival. Ross's latest work, based on the JRR Tolkien epic, looks set to follow suit.
In a form of frenetic fan fiction fuelled by sheer bravado, Ross has interpreted The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King in his own hilariously unique way, allowing the audience to experience the classic fantasy in just one hour, without a single prop or costume.
Directed by TJ Dawe and with lighting design by Mike Schaldmose, One Man Lord of the Rings was selected as "Patron's Choice" for best play at the Toronto Fringe Festival and "#1 Best of Fringe" at this year's Saskatoon Fringe Festival.
Every performance of its 2009 Edinburgh Fringe run was completely sold out and it's even been given a wizard's seal of approval by Gandalf himself, after Sir Ian McKellen caught a show in Canada. So whether you're a die-hard Lord of the Rings fan or simply want to enjoy a fast-paced, side splitting and unusual evening of entertainment, make sure you don't miss this show.
