Rugby club helps earthquake fund
Players, members and supporters of Bideford Rugby Football Club have made a major effort to support victims of the Kashmir Earthquake fund by raising enough money to pay for a Rotary Shelter box which is to be purchased through the Bideford Bridge Rotary Club.
The Shelter Box scheme adopted by Rotary clubs across the UK, provides essential equipments such as tents, cooking equipment and water purification systems etc to those suffering as a result of natural disasters. Shelter Boxes are sent to provide assistance to threatened communities in many countries across the world.
"Bideford Bridge Rotary Club have already already contributed two boxes from their own funds to meet the needs of victims of the Kashmir disaster and this is a very generous and welcome additional contribution which will undoubtedly save lives" said president John Caldwell.
Steve Massie, chairman of Bideford RFC, said that he and members of the Bideford Rugby Club hoped that their initiative might be followed by other sporting organisations in North Devon.
President Peter Morris said that they intended to make a commitment to support the Bideford Bridge Rotary Club by raising funds every year to buy a shelter box which could sent on demand, wherever help was needed.
