Cleaner beaches
PRACTICALLY all the tourist beaches in North Devon have met with rigorous bathing water tests necessary for Blue Flag status.
For the first time ever, all South West waters have met the mandatory EU requirement, but the northern Devon coast has excelled.
All bar three of our beaches met the far more stringent "guideline" or excellent standard, said to be 20 times more demanding than the mandatory requirement.
Only Wildersmouth and Hele at Ilfracombe, plus Combe Martin, failed to reach the higher grade but they still met normal standards.
Instow, which failed altogether last year, is up to the higher standard this time.
