Schooner will drop in

HMS PICKLE, a replica of the schooner which carried the news of Lord Nelson's death at Trafalgar back to Britain, will visit Bideford later this summer.
Now the flagship of the charity sailing organisation Ocean Youth Trust East, HMS Pickle is undertaking a Nelson 2005 tour as part of the 200th anniversary celebrations of the Battle of Trafalgar.
She will arrive in the port for a four-day visit on Friday, July 29, having sailed from Bristol the previous Monday, and depart for Lydney, in Gloucestershire, on August 1.
Plans for the Pickle's two full days in Bideford are still being finalised, but, depending on tidal conditions, there could be an estuary cruise and enthusiasts should be able to go aboard for a closer inspection when she is in port. Another possibility is that individuals or organisations can book her for receptions, though numbers are restricted. It promises to be an exciting weekend in Bideford. The Kathleen and May is due to return from a festival in Bristol on July 27.
