Local firm has nothing to do with phone scam
POLICE have this week made it clear that a warning about a telephone scam operation has nothing to do with a Barnstaple company which has a similar name to the one involved.
Last week, they warned of cards being put through people's doors by a company called PDS (Parcel Delivery Service) claiming a parcel was awaiting delivery and asking recipients to call 0906 6611911.
Those calling the number hear a recorded message, but will have already been billed a large amount for their call.
This number is a mail scam originating from Belize.
This week, a police spokesperson apologised for any confusion this may have caused with local company PDS (Premier Delivery Service) based on the Chivenor Business Park.
"We were not aware of this company and are not wishing to implicate them in any way," said the spokesperson.
"What we want to say to people is if they receive anything from PDS we are sure the local company will not mind being called to make sure it is them.
"We just want to stress that people should not use the 0906 number being used by those operating the scam"
Wayne Weston of Premier Delivery Services said theirs was a delivery and removal firm which had been operating locally for 12 months. It handled deliveries for a major South West furniture company.
