The next big IT thing in schools
ADULTS who have re-visited a classroom recently will have seen things have moved on a bit since their school days.
Blackboards and chalk are out, whiteboards are in. Lists of facts about other cultures have been replaced by video conferencing with children from those cultures.
Teachers are now being given the opportunity to find out what is coming next in interactive education with events held this month by North Devon based company South West IT.
The company specialises in information technology for schools and teachers will be able to get their hands on some of the latest products designed to enhance the classroom experience and make the learning process more productive and enjoyable.
Products they will be able to try include 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire?' style handsets, where teachers get an instant insight into every student's understanding and pupils get to know how they're doing without formal testing.
There will be demonstrations of the products direct from the manufacturers and teachers will be able to try them from their students' point of view as well as from their own.
The free events take place at the Caddsdown Estate, Bideford, on May 23 and at Exeter City Football Club on May 24. For further details contact Andrea Beacham on 0870 410 6114 or email andrea@theoldengroup.com.
