Lifeboat's busy weekend
Appledore lifeboat was called out three times on a busy weekend, including to a fishing vessel that had run aground on Lundy.
Three crew members on the 50-ft wooden fishing vessel Bruno of Sutton were taken off by another boat in the area after it ran aground in the early hours of Sunday.
The lifeboat was launched at 3am and transferred the crew members from the other vessel Pride of Bristol to the island.
After waiting for the tide to rise and conditions to settle the crew members were put back on board the fishing vessel, which was pumped out, refloated and checked for damage.
They were then able to make their own way back to Appledore, with the lifeboat as escort.
Martin Cox, RNLI Coxswain at Appledore, said the crew of the casualty vessel were extremely lucky.
"The boat went ashore on boulders, but they were right next to rocks and had they landed there, the damage could have been considerable. Fortunately we were able to wait for the tide to rise and then assist the crew in bringing the boat back to Appledore."
The Lundy Coastguard team were also involved in the incident and a Search and Rescue helicopter from Chivenor monitored the area for any pollution.
Appledore inshore lifeboat was launched shortly after 5pm the same day to assist an 18-ft motorboat that had broken down in the estuary. The one person on board had managed to put out an anchor and was not in immediate danger.
The boat was towed back to Appledore..
On Friday evening the all-weather lifeboat was launched to assist a commercial angling boat that had broken down. The 33-ft Lundy Murrelet had suffered machinery failure and was lying on a mooring at Lundy Island.
She was towed to Clovelly with all its crew and passengers on board.
