THE new headteacher of Ilfracombe Arts College will prove a familiar face for many.
Sharon Barnes, who has held the post in an acting capacity since last June, has been appointed as headteacher following an intensive three days of interviews with the school governors.
A statement from the college said the permanent appointment of Mrs Barnes would ensure the college continued to make progress under good leadership and had the potential to become one of the best schools in Devon.
Chairman of governors, Philip England, added: "Our college has already made substantial progress and we are confident Mrs Barnes will provide stability and leadership to enable Ilfracombe Arts College to become the outstanding school which our community deservers."
All at Ilfracombe are looking forward to the construction of a brand new college for the 21st century as part of the Government funded Building Schools for the Future scheme, with state-of-the-art facilities for both school and community use.
Mrs Barnes has been at the college for several years and teaches history.
