Latest ride is ready to roll

July 4, 2007

MALCOLM Bell, chief executive of South West Tourism, will officially open the latest attraction at The Milky Way Adventure Park, near Clovelly, on Saturday morning.

The biggest rollercoaster ride in Devon has been painstakingly put together after being transported to North Devon in kit form by five lorries from the manufacturers in Italy.

It represents a significant investment by the Stanbury family, who run the tourist attraction.
The ride is 35 feet high, 1,200 feet long and takes one minute and 30 seconds to complete its figure-of-eight course.

Daniel Pinfarri, who runs the Italian company, has designed new-look space cars for the rollercoaster, which complies with all the British standards.

He says it is the best ride of its type he has ever made.

Each car takes four passengers and reaches a top speed of 40mph.

“We are hoping the roller coaster will attract younger visitors and bring more tourists to North Devon,” said Trevor Stanbury for the Milky Way.

“Like all the other rides at The Milky Way, there will be no extra charge to use it after paying the admission fee to the park.”

First people to ride on the rollercoaster will be the winners of a competition to name it.
