A young chef at Bideford College has cooked her way to the last eight of the prestigious national RIBI Young Chef Competition.

At the final on Satrurday, hosted by Dundee and Angus College in Scotland, Year 10 student Olivia Pearce cooked a spectacular three course meal for two people in just two hours.

Her mouthwatering menu consisted of butternut squash and bacon tortellini for starters, served with pan fried kale and a walnut, sage and cranberry butter. Main course was pan fried sea bass on a bed of ratatouille with a salsa Verde, while dessert was delice of chocolate with Kahlua cream and hazelnut comets.

The event was judged by chef and food writer Valentine Warner, chef Christopher Basten, plus Walter Zanre, managing director of competition sponsor Filippo Berio and Jordon Powell, winner of Young Chef 2013, who were all very complimentary of Olivia’s cooking.

“Olivia cooked amazingly well and is a great credit to herself, her family and the College. It has been a pleasure to work with her,” said Kelly Stewart, Olivia’s mentor.

Whilst Olivia did not win this year, she is already preparing for next year’s event.
