Young driver airlifted to hospital after South Molton collision

The 21-year-old was airlifted to Derriford Hospital with serious leg injuries on Saturday morning.

A 21-YEAR-OLD man from Rugby was airlifted to hospital with serious leg injuries after a collision at South Molton in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Police said the ‘head on’ collision between a Volkswagen Polo and Seat Alhambra occurred at around 1am between Bourners Bridge and Hacche Lane.

The taxi was carrying four passengers to Bristol airport and the Polo was travelling towards Barnstaple.

The driver of the Polo was cut from the car by fire fighters airlifted from the scene.

A police spokesman said none of the people in the taxi were seriously injuried, describing them as ‘walking wounded’.

Officers from the serious collisions investigation unit are now carrying out an investigation.
