Yelland homes plan rejected by council

‘Urban extension’ deemed inappropriate for rural site.
OUTLINE planning permission for 53 new houses in Yelland has been turned down by North Devon Council.
The proposals for 11 affordable houses at land off Allenstyle Road were refused by planning officers, who said the benefits of the scheme did not outweigh the harm caused.
They said the development offered insufficient affordable housing and would change the character of the surrounding landscape from rural to urban.
The site is located outside of the development boundary in the adopted North Devon Local Plan.
The plans were first shown to the public at a consultation event at Fremington Parish Hall in September last year.
Feedback received at the time included concerns about drainage, the width of existing roads and the type of housing being proposed.
