People of all ages invited to take part in attempt at world’s longest conga on roller skates this new year’s eve.

THE organisers of Bideford’s new year’s eve celebrations are urging people to get their skates on and join in a world record attempt.

As part of the celebrations, the Bideford Festivals Committee is inviting people to take part in an attempt to form the world’s longest conga on roller skates.

The current world record had not yet been set and will need at least 250 people to come forward and take their place in the line – and history.

A course will be set up along the Quay and people of all ages can take part by bringing their own skates and dancing the conga for at least five minutes.

The whole event will be filmed and photographed by Guinness World Record adjudicators.

Phil Morgan, of the committee, said: “This year’s event is going to be so different from the previous celebrations – we’re starting the celebrations much earlier.

“There will be plenty to see and do throughout the town, as well as a few surprise additions which I can’t disclose at the moment.

“We’ll shortly be circulating a brochure which will contain all the information people will need about the events we’ve got planned.

“We’ll also be launching an interactive map of Bideford on our website which will feature what’s on, where, and when – it’s all really exciting.”

Events on the day will start from 10am and everyone taking part in the world record attempt can purchase a commemorative certificate afterwards.
