Ilfracombe resident fined after falsely claiming she had been assaulted.
AN Ilfracombe woman who claimed she was assaulted and her head ‘stamped on 20 times’ has been issued with a fixed penalty notice by police.
The 21-year-old had complained to police that a man had assaulted her and was subsequently fined £80 for making a false report.
“This was disappointing because it is a huge waste of our time and resources,” said Inspector Roger Bartlett.
“With the demands on officers, we want to focus on dealing with the real victims of crime and this distracts us from our efforts to do that. It also undermines that person as a credible witness in the future.”
