Motorist has lucky escape after heavy rain engulfs A399 at Watermouth.

A WOMAN was rescued from her car after driving into flood water near Combe Martin this morning (Wednesday).

Fire crews freed the stricken motorist from around two-and-a-half feet of water on the A399 between Watermouth Cove and Saw Mills.

An ambulance was called for a man who helped free the woman but was overcome by the cold water. He has been taken home rather than to hospital.

The road has been closed and firefighters hope to pump the water away after clearing a number of blocked drains.

Police and the fire service have warned motorists not to attempt to drive through flood water.
