West Coast Energy announces a public exhibition on Tuesday of next week (October 9) to showcase plans for three turbines on nearby farmland.

PLANS for a trio of 300 foot high wind turbines near Alverdiscott will go on display at a public exhibition next week.

West Coast Energy announced yesterday (Tuesday) it will be holding the event at Alverdiscott Village Hall next Tuesday (October 9) to allow residents, councillors, community groups, organisations and businesses to find out more about the plans.

The proposed North Devon Wind Farm is located on farmland west of the village, with three 850 kilowatt turbines standing at 91 metres from base to tip.

The company says it would generate enough electricity in a year to power around 1,400 homes, with an operational lifespan of 25 years.

Representatives from West Coast Energy will be on hand at the exhibition between 2-8pm to speak to visitors and answer questions.

The company says it wants to explain its plans to set aside 10 per cent of the profits from the development to put into a community benefit fund.

It says it is seeking local organisations in the community to work with to determine where such grants might be spent, assuming planning permission is granted Torridge District Council.

“We welcome the opportunity to speak with local residents, councillors, organisations and local businesses about our plans and for our proposed investment in the area,” said Steve Salt, West Coast Energy planning and development director.

“We believe it is important to fully consult with local residents before we submit our planning application to Torridge District Council. We want to build a purposeful and effective dialogue with the local community in the pre-application process in order that the community view is fully taken into account.”
