Where has all the sand gone?

Councillor allays fears that sand is gone for good from Westward Ho! in the wake of the storms.
BEMUSED Westward Ho! locals have been wondering where all the sand has gone on the region’s only blue flag beach.
Posts on Facebook have shown exposed rocks where the golden sand once was in the wake of the stormy weather.
But Torridge District Councillor for Westward Ho! Roger Tisdale has allayed fears the beach could be changed for good.
He said: “It’s a natural cycle as many who have lived here for some time will know.
“Pretty much every year the sand is washed away, and then washed back again, though this year it may be a little worse due to the storms.
“I am confident the sand will be back in time for the holiday season, as it always is.”
Spring tides and storm surges over the last couple of months have left a trail of damage through the coastal village.
With another round of high tides expected at the beginning of March, repairs have been put on hold until the seas have receded.
Cllr Tisdale said Torridge had received quotes to repair the promenade, slipway car park and Northam Burrows at Grey Sands Hill.
The council will also be looking to repair the rock pool apron and liaising with the Royal North Devon Golf Club over future work to the Burrows and coastal defences.
