Simon Luck takes to the south of England’s waters to raise money for Marine Conservation Society

A KAYAKER from Westward Ho! is paddling off from Falmouth today (Friday) on a month-long charity trip across the south of England.

Simon Luck, 35, a senior instructor at the Skern Lodge Outdoor Activity Centre, is setting off on an 850-mile solo trip for the Marine Conservation Society (MCS), visiting Land’s End, the Thames Estuary and the Kennet and Avon canal.

Simon said he decided on the trip because ‘pretty much everything else’ has been covered by other kayakers in the past.

“This type of trip seems to have been missed,” he said. “For me it adds to the Great British tradition of adventure and is perhaps slightly more attainable for those without a raft of sponsors or endless time and funds.

“MCS is an organisation very close to my heart, as they are really trying to turn the tide on marine pollution and pushing for an increase in marine conservation zones.”

An MCS spokesperson said the charity was ‘absolutely thrilled’ Simon has chosen to raise funds for them.
