Brothers will drive £400 car on a 2,000 mile trip around Europe for the Psoriasis Association.

Two brothers from Watermouth are bidding to drive a £400 car 2,000 miles for charity.

Dan and Chris Wassall will be taking part in the cross-Europe Screwball Rally, driving through eight countries in just four days with their eBay-bought Volvo, now transformed into a ‘Nascar’ racer.

The pair, whose family runs Watermouth Valley camp site, hope to raise at least £1,000 for skin condition charity the Psoriasis Association.

They will leave North Devon on Sunday, September 21 and head for Dover, where around 50 ‘Screwballers’ will be lining up to set off on the ferry to Calais.

The circular route takes in France, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Holland and Belgium.

The brothers’ ride is a former Russian Embassy car, with 149,000 miles on the clock, but it has been serviced by Chris’ friend Adam Aston at Jubilee Garage in Ilfracombe and he is sure another 2,000 will be nothing.

“I think I’ve picked up a reliable car – it has been looked after in its lifetime and there are no bullet holes as far as I am aware,” said Chris.

“I choose the charity because I suffer from it myself. I need medication to keep it under control, but there’s no actual cure for it at the moment.”

The brothers have also organised a charity Curry and Quiz Night at Berrynarbor Manor Hall on Friday, September 19 at 7pm. Tickets are available from the village shop and Ye Olde Globe pub.
