Friends and colleagues of Trsucotts of Barnstaple technician Ryan Dunn will be taking part in the charity Man Trek walk this Sunday for North Devon Hospice.

STAFF at Truscotts of Barnstaple will swap wheels for walking boots this Sunday in memory of a well liked friend and colleague who recently lost his battle with cancer.

They will be talking part in the Man Trek event to raise money for North Devon Hospice and in honour of Truscotts technician Ryan Dunn from Georgeham, who died aged just 30 at the end of January after a short illness.

The 11 strong group, which includes some of Ryan’s friends from outside work, will set off from Bideford at 11am for the 11 mile ‘men only’ walk – which includes a free pasty and pint along the way – before arriving at Barnstaple Rugby Club.

Last year the event, sponsored by Applegate, raised £46,000 for the hospice and Ryan’s friends are hoping to contribute at least £3,000 to the 2014 total.

His death after a short, aggressive illness came as a huge blow to all who knew him, leaving behind his wife Gemma, their two children and a baby on the way.

Wayne Down at Truscotts, one of Ryan’s best friends who grew up with him in Landkey, said North Devon Hospice had been a great support during his short illness.

“Ryan was well-liked at Truscotts, he was always helping everyone, laughing and joking,” he said.

“This is an opportunity for us to raise some money for the hospice and do something in memory of him.”

The Man Trek has more than 360 men signed up so far and it offers the choice of three routes – from Bideford to Barnstaple, the other way around, or from Instow to Barnstaple.

All three routes include a pasty courtesy of Blackwells and finish with a pint of St Austell Brewery beer, plus the England versus Wales Six Nations rugby match on big screen at Barnstaple or Bideford rugby club.

Anyone who would like to sponsor one of the team can donate at Truscotts of Barnstaple, in Lauder Lane, Roundswell, or visit one of the following Just Giving pages: www.justgiving.com/Wayne-Down, www.justgiving.com/Simon-Ravenhill, www.justgiving.com/Christopher-Beaumont or www.justgiving.com/Stuart-towning.
