Positive start to the season follows a couple of ‘challenging’ years.

VISITOR numbers are looking up for Lundy Island this year, following a couple of ‘challenging’ seasons.

Island manager Derek Green said with the good weather kicking off the season, the number of visitors filling the island’s self catering holiday lets were looking up.

Last year there was a 79 per cent occupancy level, with this year reporting an 84 per cent occupancy level already.

“The last couple of years have been a bit of a challenge, I think with the recession people have been careful about how they spend their money,” he said.

“This year is starting to see the end of that, and the good weather has helped to bring people across.

“It’s starting to look a lot more positive.”

The island lies 12 miles off the North Devon coast and is managed by the Landmark Trust.
