Torridge District Council awards improvement grants to rural village halls.

Money for improving village halls totalling more than £50,000 has been handed out by Torridge District Council.

Halls from Welcombe to Clinton, Alverdiscott, Huntshaw, Peters Marland and Bridgerule to Appledore have all been awarded cash payments up to £10,000 to upgrade their buildings.

“It is essential particularly in the more rural parts of Torridge that these halls be maintained to a decent standard in order to continue to provide the communities with a focal point,” said Councillor Roger Johnson, deputy leader of the council.

Examples of work include roof repairs, new heating systems, access and essential electrical and plumbing work.
