A BIDEFORD film maker has captured the wrath of the recent storms on camera in a five minute film which he hopes to release onto the film festival circuit.

Matt Biggs, 38, of Artaura Productions, compiled the film Storm Surge over a five week period filming mainly around Westward Ho! and Hartland.

The film, which features a soundtrack by Tom Watkins of Yard 1 Studios in Bideford, has already had more than 5,000 views on Youtube.

Speaking to the Gazette, Mr Biggs said he hoped to release a longer version of the film on the film festival circuit later on in the year.

“I didn’t initially set out to film the storms,” he said.

“I’m always out looking to get footage for big North Devon clients, it was only when the third storm hit and I was out in Westward Ho! filming in the evening that I realised the full strength of these storms – and how I could capture them.”

Mr Biggs, who is working on several new projects with Tom, said he has plans to use the stormy weather for more films in the future.

He said: “I’ve been down to Westward Ho! since filming on my bike and nobody seems to be doing much in terms of rebuilding.

“I’d like to capture the relief process on film in terms of rebuilding the areas of Westward Ho! that have been particularly affected by the storms.”
